What is a baby boomer?

People born between (and including) 1946 and 1964. After American soldiers returned home from World War II in1946, the United States experienced an explosion of births (hence the name baby boom) that continued for the next 18 years, when the birth rate began to drop. In 1964, baby boomers represented 40% of the population, which means that more than one third of the population was under 19 years of age. In the 1990s, approximately 76 million people in the United States were born in the baby boom years, representing approximately 29% of the country's population. Since baby boomers make up such a sizable portion of the consuming public, their spending habits and lifestyles have a powerful influence on the economy.

Hello world!

Kettlebell IconMy name is Terry and I love working with Kettlebells. If you don’t know what Kettlebells are, don’t worry. I will be sharing a lot of information about Kettlebells as time goes on.

I have been working toward better health and fitness for a year and a half now. I have lost about 40 pounds and have been working with Kettlebells in a structured training program for over 6 months.

I am a 54 year old male, 6′2″ with a large frame. My overall goal is to be at the top of the pile of guys my age in health and fitness. In discussions with my Doctor we have agreed upon 225 lbs as my “ideal” weight. I have a good 20 lbs more to lose to meet that goal.

I have many other goals that I will discuss as time goes on.

I have tried various ways of documenting my progress over the last year and a half and have come to the conclusion that constant attention to your plan and accountability are key to success. This daily blog may be part of the solution I have been looking for.

I have exercise under control. I do a weight training workout with Cardio 5 mornings a week, Monday through Friday, under the direction of personal trainer. Right now I am being trained remotely since my Trainer moved out of town. He determines my weekly program and we communicate results and plans by email or phone each week. I also have a local Kettlebell instructor that I work with once a week in a class environment so I have someone to provide me with real time feedback on my performance.

I belong to a nice gym and I have all the tools I need for the exercise part of this process.

My big challenge is the eating part of the process. I simply like to eat food, but I need to control that part of my life much better than I have up to this point. Finding a way to control and make my eating work for me, not against me, will be my main focus.

I am getting myself ramped up to start a 12 week journey on Monday the 20th. I just have one day to get ready.

With spring here finally I like to go out early on weekend mornings to outdoor locations and film some Kettlebell workouts. Below is one done May 2007. It’s 100 snatches with a 35 lb Kettlebell in under 4 minutes. It was a challenge I had set for myself, and I accomplished it.
