081209 – “Kelly”

Posted: 12th August 2009 by trboh in Daily Blog

CrossFit at 6AM with Angie, Dave, Tom (arriving on Tom Time), Eric, Kelly, Ron, Steve and Tomas with Brian coaching.

Everyone still taking about Fran’s recent visit and yesterday WOD.

I knew that running was going to be part of the WOD today, just did not realize how much of a part it would play.

The “Kelly” WOD is a true combination of those things that I seriously suck at. Running, Box Jumps and Wall Balls. Brian asked if I wanted to sub rowing and I said no. Remember, I am embracing running whenever it is part of the WOD. Brian then went on to do some scaling for some folks and I heard him mention my name to do only 4, not 5 rounds. I really was not expecting that. But, the other thing I try to do is recognize that the Coach knows my capabilities. As the results will show, he clearly was on track for what I could do.

Nipped in the assI am so slow at running. We all started off together and Ron was done with the first 400M’s before I even got 200M’s done. (Ok, Ron is in his prime and just finished an Iron Man, but still….) It’s like I am moving in slow motion compared to everyone else. The dinosaur would have surly got a chunk out of my big ass this morning.

To make the WOD harder I did every single box jump as a box jump. I actually jumped up. I did step down. That jump back down is a real jar to my back. I will start working on that next.

The wall balls actually went well. With the talk of a new location with high ceilings I am sure one of the first things Brian will do is mark off 10 feet on the wall. Then wall balls will suck an entirety new way. The people that did not do the NEO Challenge have no idea what a wall ball really is.

Eating—On track, feeling good. I really feel that I am smaller and tighter, especially around the waist. I was reading Kate’s blog and she is actually up 2 pounds but pleased with the physical change. I just try to keep from thinking about the scale number. It does not mean a thing.

What hurts today—Felt good this morning, just a bit of soreness in back right heel and lower right back. With the running and box jumps I fully expect my back to be sore tomorrow morning. We will see. The right arm is much better after Fran on Monday so that was just a temporary thing. I do have an old familiar ache that has come back in my left arm but I just ignore that one.

I totally agree that the scale # is not what makes us successful. Feeling smaller and tighter is such a great thing! Congrats for sticking to plan!
