I passed on the double under work, just doing extra singles. My heel is still screwed up and working on the double unders would have made that worse.
Beats the crap out of me how I came in with the best time for the WOD. I am sure I counted right. Some things just cannot be explained. Although my knees to elbows suck I was thinking to myself that they have improved about 1000%. I have much more control (limiting that “beef carcass in the wind” look I am famous for) and I was able to do more reps without a break.
The wall balls were a challenge because each throw of the ball aggravated my right elbow.
Work continues at the new box. The PVC pipe on the ground is a layout of where the pull ups bar rig will most likely go. Also, notice the rope on the right hand side of the picture. Still needs to be moved away from the wall and fastened permanently. Some people are actually looking forward to climbing on that rope. I am looking forward to watching them.
At this point moving day has been moved up to Friday rather than Saturday.

On Sunday Debbie and I attended the Harvest Ball at the Kent State Student Center Ballroom. We started attending these dances back in 1989 and through the 90′s we usually went to the three dances each year held in the Ballroom. We got away from going in early part of this decade and finally make it back. Our friends Ben and Mary Anne also attended with us.
There were many new faces but enough of the “old gang” around for us to feel comfortable. The set up was the same. Dancing from 3 to 4:30, amateur show till 5 followed by dinner and professional show. The evening ended with another period of dancing from 7 to 9.
Just like bowlers have their bowling shoes, dancers have their dancing shoes. It was kind of sad when my shoes split open during the dance. I have worn these shoes for 20 years and they have been on a lot of dance floors. I still have my “practice” shoes I can wear but maybe it it time for another pair of dress dance shoes.

During the dance it struck me that this would be the perfect breeding ground for a H1N1 outbreak until I remembered what I read about people over 50.
The majority of H1N1 flu cases are in people under 50 years old and the average age of hospitalization for H1N1 flu is 37 years of age. Scientists believe that people over 50 may have some immunity to H1N1 influenza.
Once I realized that the average age in the room was probably around 55-60 I felt a bit better. Once in a while there is a benefit to be older.
The oldest person that I knew at the dance was May who is 92 and could easily pass for late 60′s or early 70′s. It’s hard to know just how old some of the other people at the dance might have been.
They say that one of the things that makes you appear old is your inability to move. If you are out on the dance floor people will just assume you to be younger than you might be just because you are moving.
I realized that the people I know and interact with have a lot to do with how I feel about age. In the mornings I get to spend time with 20 and 30 year olds that challenge me in CrossFit. At other times I spend time with people in their 70′s and 80′s that impress me with how they are untouched by age.
Although I know I complain a lot about aches and pains I feel good about getting older because of the examples I have of what aging can be. I think some of us grow up with examples of people that are old at 50 or 60 who cannot move and have given up and we get scared of getting older. Because of those examples we think that is the way getting older has to be.
If you spend time around people who are 70, 80 or 90 that still have full and energetic lives that really reduces the fear of aging. But you have to understand that it is not just luck. These are people that work hard to be strong and independent. They did not give up just because someone told them they had reach the age that they should give up.
Dancing is like riding a bike. Once you learn how you never forget.
Eating—This weekend I was like an alcoholic on a “lost weekend”. I was really off track and the desert at the dinner Sunday evening did me in. In the past they had always had pieces of pie but that has changed to plates of individual deserts. Cookies, pastries and other assorted goodies. Eating these delights in one bite eliminates any fear of crumbs. I really over did it and felt it all the way home.
Back on track this morning. Hopefully this will be the start of another good run with Paleo.
What hurts today—Right elbow is a real issue. Really felt it during the wall balls. The 100 days of pull ups is over. Even Will is taking a 1 week break before starting up a new challenge. He is still trying to get people interested in handstand push ups but not having much luck.
someday I hope we get to see video of you dancing. that would be cool. Maybe I have just missed it? Is there any on your channel?
