What is a baby boomer?

People born between (and including) 1946 and 1964. After American soldiers returned home from World War II in1946, the United States experienced an explosion of births (hence the name baby boom) that continued for the next 18 years, when the birth rate began to drop. In 1964, baby boomers represented 40% of the population, which means that more than one third of the population was under 19 years of age. In the 1990s, approximately 76 million people in the United States were born in the baby boom years, representing approximately 29% of the country's population. Since baby boomers make up such a sizable portion of the consuming public, their spending habits and lifestyles have a powerful influence on the economy.

I was actually surprised in my 500M number. I wanted to be under 2:00 and did that easily.

Here are numbers from our last 500M on 8/26/09. You can compare times for Will, Steve, Tomas and myself. This is why I keep all these numbers. You can’t know that you are getting better if you don’t know what you did the last time.

If you have an interest in what rowing times the rest of the world is getting here is a chart I pulled from the Concept 2 website of rowing times from all over the world. You can pull up information by age group, male/female and weight class. Clearly there is room for improvement. If you want to pull a report yourself here is the link.

The burpees were another story. My time was longer but I did improve in the fact that I did not use the 6 inch box, I went all the way down to the floor. Taking this to the extreme that means I moved an additional 600 inches (49.999998 feet) more than last time. I am still not doing a true burpee but a squat thrust. This means I am not doing the full push up motion when down on the floor for the burpee.

My hip stiffness and pain level was really high this morning and that really held me back. I could have very easily just walked out the door and said screw this CrossFit crap but I just kept going knowing that eventually I would finish or pass out, one or the other. If I just hold on I know this hip issue will pass with time.

Eating—I’m trying but it is really frustrating right now. I did cook a stew overnight in the crock pot so hopefully I can focus on that today and stay on track.

What hurts today—Hips remain the major issue right now followed by right elbow and right heel. At my doc appointment tomorrow I am going do or say anything I need to get a shot of cortisone in my heel.

Debbie’s sister was moved to a regular room late yesterday after they were able to stabilize her blood pressure which was running dangerously low. The other big issue is her kidney function. No idea how much longer she may be in the hospital or where she will go after the hospital. Still working on the day by day theory.

Just for fun
