Had my 6 mo check up with the Doc.
It’s all good.
First, my experiment with Fish Oil has proven to me that Fish Oil has a dramatic effect on my level of Triglycerides. I started high level doses of Fish Oil on 9-11-2009. Here is how my numbers have changed.
Triglycerides
| 11-04-2008 | 195 |
| 5-08-2009 | 188 |
| 11-06-2009 | 74 |
During this time period I also worked on the Paleo eating so that could have contributed to overall good numbers but all the research I read indicated that Fish Oil would impact the Tri’s and I choose to believe that the Fish Oil had the primary impact.
If you are interested in Fish Oil here is link to my first post that talks about the type of Fish Oil I use and how to get it.
My other numbers were good.
Total Cholesterol 161 (previous 189 and 209)
LDL 108 (previous 111 and 131)
HDL 38 (previous 39 and 40)
I would like to get the HDL up a bit but that continues to be something I am working on.
BP was normal.
Weight came in at 251 on the Doc scales. That is down 10 pounds from 6 months ago on the Doc’s scale with clothes. Of course, I have been up and down many pounds in that 6 month period. I don’t know that I am ever going to find that secret to getting to the “ideal” weight and then just staying there forever. Best I can do at this point is just keep trying to stay focused on keeping the weight under control and try not to beat myself up too much over the situation.
I was able to talk my way into a Cortisone shot in my heel. It took some talking and I though for a minute he was going to refuse but I was determined. The pain of the long needle sliding into the meat of my right heel was well worth it. It already feels better and I only hope it can at least give me some temporary relief. He did caution me to take it easy on my heel so I am going to try to back off the WOD’s, for at least tomorrow, and try not to do much jumping or running. Maybe I should have pushed it a bit and tried for a shot in both hips, my right elbow and right upper arm and shoulder. Then I could be “Cortisone Man”, super hero.
My Prostate PSA result was fine and he checked and confirmed that I still had a Prostate.
I guess the best feedback I got from the visit was that he did not need to see again me for 12 months. Being at an age where many men simply avoid the doctor at all costs it feels good to have the Doc admit there really is not anything he can find wrong and to just keep doing what you are doing for the next 12 months. It’s a good feeling.
As I was setting up my appointment for 12 months I said to the receptionist that I was lucky. Then I realized that luck and genetics may have some part to play in my good health but I work damm hard everyday in the gym, I work at trying to control my eating and manage my weight and I take appropriate supplements, like the fish oil. It’s not all luck.

great results!
It is definitely not all luck! You do work very hard! Great check-up! Hope the shot gives you lots of relief! Have a super weekend. P.S. Happy to see Debbie’s sister is improving.
Nice job Terry! The lifestyle changes are definitely showing through.
