What is a baby boomer?

People born between (and including) 1946 and 1964. After American soldiers returned home from World War II in1946, the United States experienced an explosion of births (hence the name baby boom) that continued for the next 18 years, when the birth rate began to drop. In 1964, baby boomers represented 40% of the population, which means that more than one third of the population was under 19 years of age. In the 1990s, approximately 76 million people in the United States were born in the baby boom years, representing approximately 29% of the country's population. Since baby boomers make up such a sizable portion of the consuming public, their spending habits and lifestyles have a powerful influence on the economy.

We worked on setting a benchmark for our 1000M Row. Steve and I were next to each other. I was tracking his distance and we were within meters of each other and my rower timer suddenly stopped. I looked over and Steve was about 100 meters ahead of me while I was pulling as hard as I could. Brian got the timer going again but I just took Steve’s time as my benchmark.

In talking to Steve after the row his biceps were fried while my hips were fried. It’s interesting how the same movement causes different reactions.

Lot’s of competition this morning between Will, Brett, Joe S, Tom, Dave and Eric. They were within 12 seconds of each other.

This was Joe S.’s first WOD with the 6AM crew. He is a real competitor and another fire breather.

Did good on the Med Ball Clean but a total fail on the Toe 2 Bar. Still working on getting the knees above belly button level. Not a fan of these.

Everything would be great if all we had to do was nice, slow heavy deadlifts.

I have got a couple of days ahead on the burpees, up to 15 now. We were able to count the 30 burpees from our warm up this morning.

The excitement level is starting to rise in the gym as we prepare for Coach Glassman’s CrossFit 101 visit on the 28th. All the plans seem to be coming together for a great event.

Comments continue to be posted over at CrossFit.Com on the question of a Master’s division in Crossfit competitions. Over 50 very thoughtful comments with the majority favoring some type of Master category.

It seems clear to me that this is something CrossFit.Com will have to address at some time. Each year that goes by more and more seasoned CrossFitters will be breaking that 40, 50, 60 year break point. Anxious to see how they address this. Maybe I should ask Coach Glassman when he is here on the 28th.

Eating—Working on it.

What hurts today—Same stuff. The one thing I have found is that the longer I work in the morning the more I loosen up. When I did burpees when I first got to the gym (part of the 100 days of burpees contest) each one was very difficult and very slow. After our warm up and during the 3 sets of 10 burpees I finally started to get to the point where I could get down and up more smoothly. It just takes a long time to get stuff moving in the morning.

One year ago we had a heavy snow. Nice and dry today. I also looked at the workout for one year ago and it called for 7 deadlifts at 95 pounds! Talk about change! Today I would not be able to get away with less than 225 pounds for the same workout without suffering huge shame.

The other interesting thing is that there were only 3 guys in the class vs 11 this morning. We were even down Tomas who is usually always here on a Wednesday.
