Whiteboard 2-2-2010

CrossFit at 6AM. Still cold but just a touch of frost on the windshield. No more snow.

Our skill was the “Snatch Balance”. I was not surprised to learn I had none. You could have held a gun to my head and given me the choice between doing the snatch balance or a bullet in the head and I would have gone with the bullet.

This is one of the really frustrating things for me with CrossFit. My sometimes limited range of motion and flexibility really limit me on these types of moves. The question is not about being able to do better. Of course, with practice and experience I will be able to improve but there are so many things that I need to practice and improve. What are the most important and provide me the most benefit?

A good example is the GHD Sit Up. I know that when I spend a week every morning working on getting a good bend in my back I can reach down to the floor. But that is only after a week of working on that one move. During that week I am not working on my pull ups or back squat or getting up on the rings. Guess it is a time management issue.

Anyone hear Toby singing in the background “I’m not as good as I once was but I’m as good once as I ever was”?

Here is a video that talks about some of the common errors made with the snatch balance. For clarification the focus of the video is the guy, not the girl in the right hand corner of the screen.

Steve and I worked on our back squat prior to class. We built up to 135lbs and then went back to 65lbs. Amazing how easy it seems when the weight drops back.

My self defense trainer is on the lookout for a helmet for me to wear for stick fighting. He asked for my head circumference and I was shocked to find that my bald head is 24″. That is huge. (twss comments appropriate at this point, you know you want to). Especially when you consider that there are actually human beings with a waist size of 24 inches. Anyway, I hope we find a fitting helmet. That will help take the sting out of a stick to the head.

We will be working more with sticks tonight in self defense class.

Charlie Dunifer and Jerry Wilson both received their Level 1 CrossFit Certification this past weekend in Columbus.

Tom weighed in and was down 1 pound. Brandon is having a rib issue (the ones in your chest, not the ones you eat) and did not make class this morning for a weigh in.

Eating—On track. Checked the scale this morning and was up 1 pound but I am not worried. It must be muscle.

What hurts today—Just the usual.

Fight Gone Bad 5
What is a baby boomer?
People born between (and including) 1946 and 1964. After American soldiers returned home from World War II in1946, the United States experienced an explosion of births (hence the name baby boom) that continued for the next 18 years, when the birth rate began to drop. In 1964, baby boomers represented 40% of the population, which means that more than one third of the population was under 19 years of age. In the 1990s, approximately 76 million people in the United States were born in the baby boom years, representing approximately 29% of the country's population. Since baby boomers make up such a sizable portion of the consuming public, their spending habits and lifestyles have a powerful influence on the economy.
