CrossFit at 6AM. Getting warmer and saying dry.

Really sore this morning even through I had a good nights sleep. Pull ups during the warm up were really hard.

I subbed power cleans for the squat cleans. Subbed falling on the floor and struggling back upright for burpees.

Brian thought we might do this sub 10 but we all proved him wrong!

If you are going to be down here for 2+ days I strongly recommend checking
out the cabin rentals in the area!
Here are some basic hotels in Logan OH in order of what I would recommend:
1) Hocking Hills Cabins – This is the best way to stay in the Hocking Hills area. Ask for Darlene and tell them you are with CrossFit for
better rates. This is a million times better than staying in a hotel.

You are receiving this email because of your participation in the 2010 CrossFit Games.

Jay in Iowa came through with another Turkish Get Up video.

Worth noting this morning Tom F suddenly started doing kipping pull ups like he was born doing them. All his hard work over the months finally paid off and he has become a kipping master!

Eating—Being driven crazy by the scale. Up three, down three, all over the board from day to day. Maybe it’s time to lay off the scales for a bit.

What hurts today—With more work on pull ups the pain in my right forearm is back and along with the persistent pain in my right shoulder it makes life interesting. This morning was really tough from a pain perspective.

CrossFit at 6AM.

Worked on Pull Ups prior to class.

Did good on the swings and push ups. Did step ups vs. box jumps. Compelted all wall balls with 20 lbs but they were sloppy and took a long time. Not a fan of the wall balls.

No Self Defense class tonight. Will not have another self defense class until 4/11.

Eating—On track

What hurts today—Biggest issue is the lingering pain in the right shoulder.

Here is a picture from Saturday’s Class WOD. It’s easy to see that I was having the time of my life.

This week my challenge for Jay is to work on Turkish Get Ups. Look at what he has already been able to accomplish.

CrossFit at 6AM.

I am such a creature of habit that I missed getting a picture of the whiteboard because I got side tracked on the final weigh in and body shot pictures. This means I will need to go on memory which is always an interesting variation on normal life.

After I finished the blog for the day Brian helped me out with a picture of the whiteboard for today. Thanks Brian!

Prior to class Dave R and I worked on some shoulder press warm up and Will worked with me on getting up on the rings. Will seems to think that someday I will overcome the power of gravity and levitate myself up into a full muscle up. I guess if he believes that I might as well believe it as well.

Got 125 for the shoulder press this morning. Had to really fight for that. With a shoulder press you cannot use your legs to get the weight up, all the power must come from your shoulders. Back in February we did 5X5X5X5X5 shoulder press and I got 125. I should have been able to go heavier that 125 this morning but it was just not happening.

We had a 10 minute AMRAP that sucked.
20 Air Squats
10 Knee to Elbows
5 Hand Stand Push Ups or 7 using the tire or box

I got 5 rounds in but it was really tough.

Lot of pain this morning. Saturday was really tough with the AMRAP I did plus the regular WOD and then I was back at Self Defense Class yesterday afternoon. I worked hard on the sticks and did a lot of footwork. That always messes up my ankles and heels for the next day.

Today was the final weigh in for our 90 day tracking period. I came in at 238. So the official loss is 18 pounds. Brian checked body fat and I went from 22.3% to 17.9%.

Only 13 more pounds to get to my 225 goal but it seems like a long way away.

Eating—Trying to stay on track and just keep going toward the 225 goal.

What hurts today—Bad night sleeping. Lot of discomfort in shoulders and upper body.

One Year Ago—My weigh in one year ago was 251.1 so at least I am better of than I was then.

On Saturday, 3/27/10, Charlie, Lisa, Dan, Jill, Kate and Brian did the three WODs from the 2008 Games.

Here is a look at that morning.

Jay and Lee, out in the middle of Iowa, made a video of their AMRAP, just like Will and I did. Guess who the winners were!

If you did not see them check out all the Burpee Challenge Videos

CrossFit at 7:30 AM to be there to video Dan, Brian, Charlie, Kate, Lisa and Jill in their 8 AM WOD. Still cold outside from yesterday but the sun was shining bright.

Will did a 7 minute AMRAP with me. That video is in the previous posting. After that we, along with Dave K worked on the rings and muscle ups. Kate showed us a cool way to work on the transition up into the muscle up. Don’t know that I will ever get a muscle up. Makes me think of how the first guys to launch a rocket ship into space must have felt. Lots of launches and lots of ditching into the ocean. But, it’s fun to work on.

The WOD for the day was a total suck. Dave C was back for the first time after two weeks out for knee surgery and we paired up for the WOD. I had to change a couple of things around because Dave needed to back off during the second round but was back full force for the third round. This was not an easy deal for the big guys this morning. Thanks for working the WOD with me Dave!

After the Partner WOD there were two more WOD’s for Dan, Brian, Charlie, Kate, Lisa and Jill. I video taped those and my next project is to put together a video from the morning.

Group from CrossFit Legacy

I also got a cool picture with Kate Rawlings.

Terry and Kate

Jumped on the scale and got 234. Dave K was my witness. Wondering if I should just go with that for my final or wait to see what Monday brings. Will and I stopped at the Mexican Restaurant down the street and I ate as Paleo as possible. Don’t know if that will mess me up for Monday or not. Maybe I will just work extra hard in self defense class tomorrow to burn it off.

Eating—Staying on track with a little bump for lunch. No way I am going to beat Joe’s 26 pounds. I have already spoken to Joe and we are going to continue on after Monday working on our weight. I am hoping the other guys will also but I have not had the chance to discuss the issue with them.

What hurts today—I felt good today. My right shoulder has calmed down a little bit and just some minor discomfort in my heels/ankles.

One Year Ago—I was really sick and did not do anything.

I gave Jay a challenge to do as part of his 90 Days of Never Give Up. Decided to do the workout myself and was able to talk Will into joining me. Thanks Will! Do you think I got more than Will?

CrossFit at 6AM. The truck was covered in solid ice. About 1 inch of snow on the ground. The roads were OK but the parking lot was a solid sheet of ice.

Good crowd for a Friday morning. Scott’s son Ryan was in class with us and Ron made a rare Friday morning appearance.

Eric brought his new weight vest this morning and wore it during the workout. Eric, my offer to pay you 50 percent of what you paid for the vest goes through today. After that the offer will continue to drop. I figure this will be the quickest way to get you out of this mess and get Will off my back all at the same time.

Eating—Back on track now that I am feeling a bit better. Dropped two pounds from yesterday. It’s going to take a miracle but if Joe packs a couple pounds back on and I can drop a couple more I just might make it to the top by Monday.

What hurts today—The big issue now is the right shoulder. This has been going on for a couple of weeks now and shows no signs of getting better. The couple of days off has really helped my heels/ankles. Zurple keeps suggesting that I get massage and I keep meaning to call the local massage college that is just a few miles away to get something set up.

One Year Ago—I was sick one year ago and did not make class.

Fight Gone Bad 5
What is a baby boomer?
People born between (and including) 1946 and 1964. After American soldiers returned home from World War II in1946, the United States experienced an explosion of births (hence the name baby boom) that continued for the next 18 years, when the birth rate began to drop. In 1964, baby boomers represented 40% of the population, which means that more than one third of the population was under 19 years of age. In the 1990s, approximately 76 million people in the United States were born in the baby boom years, representing approximately 29% of the country's population. Since baby boomers make up such a sizable portion of the consuming public, their spending habits and lifestyles have a powerful influence on the economy.
