Had really big plans for Saturday and Sunday but my cold got in the way.
On Saturday morning I had planned to go up to Kate Rawling’s CocaCrossFit to participate in another “Fight Gone Bad” workout. Will and Eric P went up but I just could not go. That was a disappointment. Also had plans for guys movie night to see “Fighter” and had to pass on that.
Was able to sleep Saturday night and felt better Sunday morning so I went to the Rec Center for the Sunday morning run, again with Will and Eric P. I knew that I could not possibility do my usual 7-8 miles but wanted to do something. I made it for 1 mile running and then had to back down to just walking for 3 miles giving me 4 total. Eric P made it 6 miles and Will went 9.
All CrossFit classes for today (Monday) were canceled. That was OK with me because I would have really had to push to make myself go this morning.
My cold has now become just a really bad cough that comes and goes. I cough so hard that it makes my head hurt so then I have a headache. I am hopeful that another night of sleep will help me break out of this and feel more normal.
Today was my visit to the Sports Medicine Doctor. It still seems funny to me that I have a Sports Medicine Doctor, but I do. A student Doc examined me first and then the real doc. It was interesting to hear the doc explaining things to the student.
They took x-rays of my shoulders. Nothing of note with the x-rays other than some arthritis in both shoulders. That was not really a surprise. Based upon my Mother’s health history I can expect arthritis to pop up most anywhere.
I will going for physical therapy. Here is what the doctors orders call for:
Evaluate and Treat–Bilateral shoulder, RTC syndrome,
Exercises-Flexibility,
Exercises-Neuromuscular Re-Education,
Exercises-Range of Motion
Exercises-Strengthening
SCAP STAB, RTC strength
Modalities-Manual Therapy, Pain reduction
Diagnosis – Rotator Cuff Syndrome, bursae and tendons in shoulder region
So far the big difference I see in going to the Sports Doctor is that he has already made a diagnosis. In the past when I have had therapy the physical therapist made there own diagnosis and treatment plan. I report back to the Sports Doctor in late February to see what progress has been made.
I will be going to the same PT that Eric M had really good results with so I am anxious to get started.
The forecast calls for snow tonight and then really bad weather moving in tomorrow afternoon.
I am really anxious for things to settle down so my schedule can get back on track. Bad weather, being sick, missing workouts all really annoy me. It seems that since Christmas thing have just been all over the place.
One of the things I am really anxious to see at the Box is Heidi’s new weight vest. I take a lot of credit for talking her into getting one. Of course, that means I better wear mine more often that I have been. There is always a catch to everything..
My eating has got a bit off track with being sick. Unfortunately I am one of those that hardly every gets sick enough to not eat. In fact, eating is a comfort for me when not feeling good. I am in the position where gaining a couple of pounds is not a problem, in fact, probably a good thing for me to do so I am just not going to worry about it.
ONE YEAR AGO
CrossFit at 6AM. Still cold but no more snow.
Stiff as a board this morning. The squats we did on Saturday really got to me over Sunday. Worked on back squat and squat clean prior to class starting.
WOD was pretty much a total fail. I was able to do a couple rounds of the Bear Complex with 75 pounds but it was a real challenge. This Bear Complex manages to hit everything that I can’t move. I just wanted the WOD to be over.

On the lighter side I did get my 2 pound loss for the week. Total loss is 14 pounds, current weight 242.
Joe also has 14 pounds down. Dave and Steve did not post a loss this week and Brandon and Tom still have to weigh in tomorrow morning.
Still hoping that we come up with our 50 pounds lost as a group.
Had my self defense class yesterday afternoon. Continued our work on stick combat.
Eating—Based upon results I must be on track. I will not be surprised if I slow up and don’t lost anything this week. That seems to be the way my weight lost goes. Lose one week and then two week for another loss although this time my loss seems to be more regular.
What hurts today—Yesterday was bad and this morning was really bad as far as pain. Everything hurts.
