Terry, Kelly, Eric 11-26-2008 6 AM Class

Ted, Eric, Matt, Kelly joined me for the 6AM class with Brian and Jerry coaching.

Brian changed up our warm up and activiation routine with butterfly setups and some other new tricks. For jump rope we did 30 seconds slow and 30 seconds as fast as possible.

For our skill we spent a long time working on snatch technique with the PVC. Once in a while I can get it. There are just so many things to remember to create the correct form. I have found that one of Jerry’s favorite things to do when we are practicing with PVC pipe is come up behind you and push your back and see if you fall over. If you have the correct form you should be solid as a rock.

I was still sore from yesterday’s workout so I knew that whatever we did today would be hard for me.

We did Barbara (or at least tried)

20 Pull ups
30 Push ups
40 Set ups
50 Air Squats

5 sets (3 minutes rest between sets)
The goal was 5 sets but we only did 3

Results (Total time)

Matt–22:52
Eric–22:56
Kelly–23:00
Ted–26:45
Terry–28:14

I was really falling behind this morning. I really lose time on the set ups and squats. The intent was to do 5 sets but when it was taking the fastest people 22 or 23 minutes to get done with 3 it became clear that we were only going to go with 3 sets.

The snow has stopped but the ground is covered by several inches. All the roads are clear and we are expecting temps in the 40′s today and nice weather tomorrow.

Debbie, Mom and I will be going to Columbus tomorrow for dinner with C and M. Mom might stay for a couple of days but Debbie and I have to get back for the dogs and Debbie has to be at work to have the store open at 4AM on Friday.

I am cointinuing to enjoy having a couple of days off work. I have at least 1 day off each week for the rest of the year.

Brook Burke was the winner last night on “Dancing with the stars”. I was right on with my prediction. On week one I said it would be Brook or Lance. Brook was the best technical dancer but I think Lance should have made 2nd place over Warren.

In the Crossfitlegacy blog today Brian put out a 30 day diet challenge based on eliminating refined sugars from our diets. I am in on that.

Had a good Crossfit workout on Friday and this morning.

My back pain is not the focus of every waking moment anymore.

Starting tomorrow morning I am back at it with my Kettlebells. I really am kind of starting over. This week I will do Kettlebell workouts on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday to set a new benchmark. I know I have lost strength and endurance over the last month, even with my Crossfit workouts.

This picture was a bit blured. I guess that is because I move so fast.

I really like the picture below. It’s from this mornings workout with everyone in the picture, except for Brian. I am in the grey. Jerry, the other trainer is in the red shorts. Eric is next to me on the pull up bar and Ted is next to him. Sharon is in black facing away from the camera and Karen is on the rings. This was the first morning class for Karen and Ted.

Debbie is enjoying the beach.

I am taking vacation this week. Only had to work about 4 hours today. I have several major projects going on that I have to keep moving forward.

I purchased some paint. My goal is to get the dining room area painted before next Monday. I HATE to paint. We will see how far I get.

Pukie the Clown

I made it without an actual visit from Pukie, however, I could feel him playing around in my belly. The only thing that saved me was not eating anything this morning before the workout.

A very hard Crossfit this morning. Several of the more experienced folks commented on the difficulty of the WOD this morning.

10 1 leg pistols (squats) each leg
12 Shoulder Push (2 20lb dumbbell)
15 Pullups (jump or could substitute rings)

Do 7 sets for time

I can’t remember my actual time at this point. I think it was 18 or 19 mninutes. I was in a daze. I do know I came in last, which is fine by me. I pushed as hard as I could and if last place is my place, then I worked hard for it. Brian will have the actual times in the webpage update later today. I will add that link here.

For the leg pistols we were able to use a vertical beam to hold on to and lower ourselves. I learned something about my knees. It’s unlikely that my knees will support me and my weight without assistance. Time will tell.

I seem to be getting use to all the squats. My hips are not sore as they were last week. Like so many things, we just need to work through the initial shock to our bodies. Once we get use to them the pain goes away.

For Saturday the gym is doing “Personal Records” for best times for a girl named workout of your choice. In Crossfit there are predetermined workouts that are given girls names. Here is a list of the workouts.

If you look for the “Mary” workout you will see is was much like the workout we did this morning, only we did Shoulder Pushes rather than handstand push ups. (Thank goodness because I am not ready for handstand push ups.)

All I have to do is pick out which one I want to get tested on for my Personal Record next Saturday. At this point my best bet will be Cindy.

Fight Gone Bad 5
What is a baby boomer?
People born between (and including) 1946 and 1964. After American soldiers returned home from World War II in1946, the United States experienced an explosion of births (hence the name baby boom) that continued for the next 18 years, when the birth rate began to drop. In 1964, baby boomers represented 40% of the population, which means that more than one third of the population was under 19 years of age. In the 1990s, approximately 76 million people in the United States were born in the baby boom years, representing approximately 29% of the country's population. Since baby boomers make up such a sizable portion of the consuming public, their spending habits and lifestyles have a powerful influence on the economy.
